How can it be that I almost have a high school graduate? I remember the early days of his kindergarten year as if they were yesterday. There were only three little boys in those days. One little boy was very eager to "do school" . . . and two little boys were very eager to do just the same as "brother". In my lack of wisdom, I thought I could just gate off the bedroom and, with a few treats, keep the two younger boys occupied there while James and I "did" school. That was good for a few minutes, however their pleas for attention were incredibly distracting to the teaching going on in the other room! Weeks of this began to fray the nerves of this young homeschooling mother. How would I ever meet the needs of each of my precious boys? It was then, that a phone conversation with my dear seasoned homeschooler friend all the way in North Carolina changed my world! She challenged me to remember who called me to this privilege, who created my family with the ages just as they were, and who would sustain me in the midst of what seemed to be very trying days. Of course, the truth she was speaking of was what I base my life upon . . . our merciful Heavenly Father! Certainly, He had called me, He had prepared my home, and He was sustaining me in those oh so wonderful days!!
Though I fall terribly short of the goals I had set as a homeschool mother, I stand in awe at the amazing work the Lord has done in my dear James' life . . . in spite of my weaknesses and failures! Oh, He is so worthy of my praise!
And, here's two other pics I can't resist sharing! One makes my heart "jiggle", the other makes my heart soft and weepy! Wow, this boy has grown . . . Wow, how I love this boy!

I really don't have any words.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw James' picture in my sidebar, I just couldn't believe it.
And of course, I knew you homeschooled, but didn't realize you have always homeschooled.
Amazing.
I am so proud of you and of James.
Congratulations to both of you.
You must be so proud. What a beautiful young man your James is! You have done well!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!! You can tell that James is a true homeschooler by the slippers he is wearing! haha LOL.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe it's only 92 more days until our "boys" graduate?!?!.....okay, now I am getting weepy......
I can't resist commenting. WOW! Love you dear James and your mom who has been faithful with the Lord's help to do what she was called to do - homeschool you. I love you Cathy and almost picked up the phone when I remembered that I am without a voice today. Lost it yesterday! So much love flowing your way dear friend.
ReplyDeleteHey Cathy! Time sure has flown by. I'm sure you have done an amazing job with your children under some very difficult circumstances through the years. Your testimony is a blessing to me, and I am considered a veteran homeschooler as well! As homeschooling moms we need encouragement and to be reminded that God has called us, therefore He will equip us AND our children. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the updates! You are in my prayers ♥ :)
ReplyDeleteI have tears in my eyes. Hearing how God brought you from those early days (which sound so much like mine. I thought I could keep my youngest 2 occupied with toys while I taught the oldest two, but after many days of pleading and crying, I finally relented and they join in as best as they can.) has actually given me hope. It's wonderful seeing him as a kindergarten graduate and seeing him as high school graduate. Congratulations James!!
